Виталий Андреевич попал на фронт в 1944 году, тогда ему было всего 19 лет. Он служил в военно-воздушных войсках Третьего Украинского фронта. Еще на полях сражений пермяк смог удивить однополчан тягой к инженерному ремеслу. Его изобретения помогали облегчить непростой военный быт. Победу Шитов встретил в Чехословакии.
После войны он переехал в Пермь. Окончив школу рабочей молодежи, получил высшее образование по специальности инженер-конструктор. Свой трудовой путь ветеран начала на железной дороге. Затем вся его жизнь была связана с Приборостроительным заводом. В копилке Виталия Андреевича — 17 патентов на авторские изобретения. Придумывать новое и конструировать Шитов продолжает и по сей день.
