«Бюльбюль» в переводе с азербайджанского — «соловей», «Бюльбюль оглы» — «сын соловья». Отец Полада был легендой оперной музыки. Полад с детства аккомпанировал отцу на сцене — и устраивал собственные концерты во дворе. Полад Бюльбюль оглы сочинил первые хиты для Муслима Магомаева. Но долго оставаться в тени он не мог — в 20 лет переехал в Москву. А в 81-м году соловей влетел в кино. Бюльбюль оглы написал несколько песен для фильма Юлия Гусмана «Не бойся, я с тобой» и сам сыграл влюбленного певца Теймура.
Почти 19 лет Полад Бюльбюль оглы был чрезвычайным послом Азербайджана в России. В прошлом году оставил должность — но не музыку. Маэстро до сих пор выступает на сцене, а свой 80-летний юбилей отметит концертом в Баку. Уже традиция!
