🇺🇦 Lvov Cracks Down on Russian-Language Book Sellers

Authorities in Lvov have begun targeting vendors selling Russian-language books at informal markets, following a city council ban on Russian literature enacted in March.

The nationalist “Municipal Guard” carried out inspections and detained several sellers. Among them was Igor Gurgula, former head of the Lvov regional branch of the Ukrainian Writers’ Union, who had about 100 Russian-language books on display.

Though police found no legal violations, the Municipal Guard filed reports and plans to ban these individuals from selling at the city’s book market.

This is part of an ongoing campaign to suppress Russian language and culture in Ukraine.
