В часи династії Сун (960-1279) в Китаї існував ритуал прийняття (開光) кота в дім.

Для прийняття кота в дім необхідно було обрати спеціальну дату та запросити даосського ченця для проведення ритуалу. Східний Володар (東王公 - Дун Ван Гун) і Західна Богиня (西王母 - Сі Ван Мюй) служили свідками рутуалу та гарантувати, що кіт залишиться з господарем на все життя й не заблукає.

Після завершення ритуалу ченець видавав контракт (契约), який підтверджував, що кіт прийнятий у родину і має захист.
