A World Without Depth

We are living in an age where humanity is stepping away from its most precious inheritance: the beauty of tradition, the wisdom of the ages, the depth of spirituality, and the transformative journey of personal growth. These pillars, once the foundation of meaningful lives, are now treated as relics—discarded in favor of fleeting distractions.

They say that people living near a waterfall do not hear the sound of water. Those who live in a mountain valley, near a lake, sooner or later stop noticing the beauty around them.

In the same way, most of us stop appreciating the people around us and what they give us: support, faith, love. All this is taken for granted. But, in reality, no one owes anyone anything. It is important to always remember this, and say thank you. An elderly man, who’s living alone in Salisbury wanted to plant his annual tomato garden, but it was very difficult work, since the ground was hard.

His only son, Paul, who used to help him, is now in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament:

Dear Paul,

I am feeling pretty sad, because it looks like I won’t be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I’m just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would be over.. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days.

Love, Dad

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

Don’t dig up that garden. That’s where the bodies are buried!

At 4 a.m. the next morning, Salisbury CID officers and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologised to the old man and left.

That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

Dear Dad,

Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That’s the best I could do under the circumstances.

Morale of the story - Always think outside the box to create the outcome you need.

No one is going to come and save you. No one is going to ride a white horse and take all your worries away. You have to save yourself, one step at a time, one day at a time.

Build yourself a house. Take care of your body. Find something to work on…something that excites you, something you want to learn. Buy a few books and memorize them. Find out more about the author, where they grew up and what books they have read. Go out for dinner. Don't dress for anyone else, just for yourself and just feel good. It's nice to feel pretty. You don't need anyone to confirm that.
