♦️زنده یاد ابراهیم پورداود، ادیب، پژوهشگر، ایران‌شناس و استاد برجسته زبان‌های باستانی ایران، درباره مبدا شروع جشن ملی سده توضیح داد: «آنطور که در داستان است، سده روزی است که آتش پیدا شد. همانطور که در شاهنامه می‌خوانیم که هوشنگ با چند تن از همراهانش از کوهی می‌گذشت که ماری دید. سنگی برگرفت و به سمت مار انداخت. این سنگ به سنگی دیگر خورد و جرقه‌ای پیدا شد. این به عقیده ایرانیان بار اول است که آتش پیدا شد». ابراهیم پورداود ادامه داد: «همانطور که در شاهنامه آمده است، آتش حاصل ازین جرقه را نگه داشتند و آن را سده خواندند: ز هوشنگ ماند این سده یادگار ، بسی باد چون او دگر شهریار».
جشن سده یکی از کهن‌ترین جشن‌های ایرانی است که در دهم بهمن‌ماه برگزار می‌شود. این جشن نمادی از پیروزی نور بر تاریکی و سرما بر گرماست.
