اخیرا Muscari Tomajoli و همکارانش در جدیدترین مطالعه‌ی خود، نوزادان میگوی شورآبی آرتمیا فرانسیسکانا را تحت فشاری مشابه به جو مریخ قراردادند. هدف آن‌ها از این کار، درک مکانیسم‌های سازگاری موجودات زنده در محیط‌های شدید و پیش‌بینی توانایی آن‌ها برای بقا در فضا، به ویژه در مریخ است. محققان متابولیسم هوازی و بی‌هوازی، عملکرد میتوکندری و میزان استرس اکسیداتیو را در نوزادان آرتمیا مورد بررسی قرار دادند. نتایج این پژوهش نشان داد که آرتمیا می‌تواند سازگار با شرایط سخت زنده مانده و در نتیجه به عنوان یک مدل مناسب برای تحقیقات بعدی اخترزیست‌شناسی مورد استفاده قرارگیرد تا به درک بهتر امکان حیات در مریخ کمک‌کند.
