In the book, "7 Deadly Scenarios", author Andrew F. Krepinevich Jr. reveals 7 (out of thousands) scenarios which the DOD plans for.

This book was published in 2009.
The 7 Scenarios are:
Global Pandemic, Pakistan's Collapse, Nuclear blackmarket leading to a Dirty bomb being smuggled into major US city, Cyber attack, Mass Migration/ Border dispute, China's rise leading to military confrontation, Chinese civil unrest.

All of these things have occurred or are in the process of ocurring
