Основными заказчиками новых локомотивов, помимо РЖД, являются крупные промышленные предприятия, которые в финансовом плане могут себе это позволить за счет прибыли от основного вида деятельности.
На путях необщего пользования сегодня эксплуатируются более 5200 локомотивов. Из них 1800 - на предприятиях, входящих в Ассоциацию «Промжелдортранс». Из всех локомотивов промтранспорта примерно 2500 выходят на пути общего пользования для подачи и уборки вагонов на 550 станциях ОАО «РЖД».
