Tadanori Yokoo & Renzaburo Shibata.
Uro Tsuki Yata [Yata, the Vagabond].
Published by Shueisha, 1975
ISBN: 00937800043041

This rare edition of Uro Tsuki Yata (1975) is a collaboration between novelist Renzaburo Shibata and Japanese graphic design megastar Tadanori Yokoo. The novel follows the adventures of Yata, a wandering vagabond, set against the backdrop of historical Japan. I’ve never actually read the story, but the book itself stands out for its experimental design, featuring vibrant color illustrations and innovative layouts that blend traditional narrative with avant-garde visual storytelling. Something that I really miss in many modern books.

The War on Fakes channel has repeatedly attempted to push conspiracies that footage from Ukraine is somehow being falsified. One post on the channel from February 24 claimed without evidence that a widely viewed photo of a Ukrainian woman injured in an airstrike in the city of Chuhuiv was doctored and that the woman was seen in a different photo days later without injuries. The post, which has over 600,000 views, also baselessly claimed that the woman's blood was actually makeup or grape juice. "We as Ukrainians believe that the truth is on our side, whether it's truth that you're proclaiming about the war and everything else, why would you want to hide it?," he said. This ability to mix the public and the private, as well as the ability to use bots to engage with users has proved to be problematic. In early 2021, a database selling phone numbers pulled from Facebook was selling numbers for $20 per lookup. Similarly, security researchers found a network of deepfake bots on the platform that were generating images of people submitted by users to create non-consensual imagery, some of which involved children. At this point, however, Durov had already been working on Telegram with his brother, and further planned a mobile-first social network with an explicit focus on anti-censorship. Later in April, he told TechCrunch that he had left Russia and had “no plans to go back,” saying that the nation was currently “incompatible with internet business at the moment.” He added later that he was looking for a country that matched his libertarian ideals to base his next startup. "Someone posing as a Ukrainian citizen just joins the chat and starts spreading misinformation, or gathers data, like the location of shelters," Tsekhanovska said, noting how false messages have urged Ukrainians to turn off their phones at a specific time of night, citing cybersafety.
