يقولُ ابنُ رجب -رحمهُ اللّٰه-: "وقد اشترى جماعةٌ من السَّلفِ أنفسَهم من اللّٰه -عزَّ وجلَّ- بأموالهِم؛ فمنهم من تصدَّقَ بمالِه كلِّه كحبيب أبي محمَّد، ومنهم من تصدَّقَ بوزنِه فضَّة ثلاثَ مرَّاتٍ أو أربعًا كخالد الطحاوي، ومنهم من كان يجتهدُ بالأعمالِ الصَّالحة ويقول: إنَّما أنا أسيرٌ أسعى في فكاكِ رقبتي، منهم عَمرو بن عتبة".
قال الحسنُ البصريّ -رحمهُ اللَّه-: "المؤمن في الدُّنيا كالأسير يسعى في فكاكِ رقبتِه، لا يَأمن شيئًا حتَّى يلقى اللّٰهَ -عزَّ وجلَّ-، وقال: ابن آدم! إنَّك تغدو وتَروحُ في طلبِ الأرباح، فليكُن همُّك نفسَك؛ فإنَّك لن تربحَ مثلها أبدًا".

Telegram has acted to remove public channels affiliated with terrorism, but Pavel Durov reiterated that he had no business snooping on private conversations.
