По разным данным, на каждом из потерпевших крушение танкеров могло находиться до 5 тысяч тонн нефтепродуктов. Разлив такого объема может стать одной из самых масштабных техногенных катастроф в регионе.
В 2007 году в том же районе произошел разлив мазута с аналогичного танкера «Волгонефть». Тогда нефтепродукты загрязнили десятки километров береговой линии и нанесли существенный урон флоре и фауне региона.
Нынешняя экологическая катастрофа может показаться куда серьезнее.

Given that Russian law enforcement officials are reportedly (via Insider) stopping people in the street and demanding to read their text messages, this could be vital to protect individuals from reprisals.
