والناس يظنون أن البلاء خير للمؤمن، وأعينهم تشير إلى حظ من الدنيا يأتيهم يسمونه العوض. وهذا شكل آخر يُضم لأشكال متكررة من تعلق الإنسان بالعاجلة. فالله عز وجل يثيب في الدنيا أحيانًا، ولكن هذه الإثابة نفسها هي بلاء آخر وليست هي الخير الذي في الحديث. فبلاء المصيبة خيره في تحريكه الإنسان لعبودية الصبر، وبلاء النعمة خيره في تحريك الإنسان لعبودية الشكر.
فليس بعد البلاء حظ من الدنيا ولا عوض ترجوه حتمًا، قد يحدث هذا وتكون ساعتها نعمة تستوجب الشكر وذاك بلاء جديد، وقد لا يحدث هذا وتكون ساعتها مصيبة تستوجب الصبر وذاك بلاء جديد.
والله سبحانه يقول لنبيه: فإما نرينك بعض الذي نعدهم أو نتوفينك فإلينا مرجعهم ثم الله شهيد على ما يفعلون.
وقضاء الله في الإنسان يدور كله حول تعريض الإنسان لفصول الامتحان التي تستفز فيه طاقة العبودية لتبلغ به مرتبة الكمال التي يباهي الله بها ملائكته ويجزي بها عبدَه الجنة.
