Железнодорожное сообщение было приостановлено с марта 2020 года из-за пандемии, и сейчас стороны готовятся к запуску нового этапа транспортного сообщения. Несмотря на то, что сухопутные границы Азербайджана остаются закрытыми из-за продленного карантина до апреля 2025 года, премьер-министр Грузии Ираклий Кобахидзе отметил, что возобновление сервиса является важным шагом для укрепления дружбы и взаимовыгодного сотрудничества между странами.
