Он проработал в театре артистом-кукловодом с 1977 по 2015 годы. Владимир Никитин был ведущим артистом марийской труппы театра и играл главные роли практически во всех спектаклях.
Известно, что он был трижды лауреатом театральной премии имени Йывана Кырли, а также Лауреатом Государственной премии Республики Марий Эл в области театрального искусства имени М. Шкетана.
