По хронологии это самый ранний роман саги — его действие начинается спустя несколько дней после того, как свежеиспеченный ведьмак Геральт, пока еще без приставки «Из Ривии» впервые самостоятельно покинул стены Каэр-Морхена и в одиночку выехал на большак.
