САУ "Пион" — одна из мамых тяжёлых самоходных артиллерийских установок в мире (масса 60 тонн, ствол длиной 12 м). Для неё нужны снаряды 203-мм калибра, которые были давно израсходованы.

Необходимые снаряды подогнали из США, (203 калибр используется в амерканском аналогах М110 и М115)
