Его циничное убийство вызвало протесты со стороны ультра-правого и ныне запрещённого в РФ ДПНИ (Движения Против Нелегальной Иммиграции). В День памяти жертв этнопреступности Движение Националистов в северной столице возложило цветы к месту убийства Дмитрия.
