Корабль той же серии, «Адмирал Невельской», уже с июня ходит по маршруту: Корсаков – Кунашир – Шикотан – Итуруп. Ожидается, что «Павел Леонов» присоединится к нему в октябре.
Новое судно отличается не только комфортными условиями более чем для 100 пассажиров и способностью перевозить 6 легковых машин, но и принадлежность к ледовому классу, что позволит ему круглогодично доставлять людей и товары на острова.
