Сама работа не была связана с водкой, а посвящена изучению изменений удельного веса раствора в зависимости от концентрации спирта и воды. Более того, как сам напиток, так и его название были распространены в других языках за сотни лет до этого.
В русском языке название «водка» было зафиксировано в 1533 году в применении к лекарственной спиртовой настойке трав, а в значении спиртного напитка стало применяться в XVII веке.
