США ранее заявляли, что, несмотря на расположение вблизи российских границ, она не способна подорвать военно-стратегический потенциал России. В Вашингтоне сообщили, что эта база будет служить для обороны Западной Европы, в частности, от иранских ракет.
В Редзиково, в 165 км от границы России, размещены три системы вертикального пуска MK 41 VLS, каждая из которых оснащена восемью контейнерами с ракетами SM-3 IIA (всего 24 ракеты), радар SPY-1D(V) и система управления огнем.
Это второй такой объект в Европе, с 2016 года в районе населенного пункта Девеселу в Румынии действует первая американская база наземного базирования ПРО Aegis.
