Так её охарактеризовал священник Иоанн Троицкий, законоучитель Демидовского юридического лицея и автор "Истории губернского города Ярославля" (1853 год).
Своя правда в назывании церкви Ильи Пророка готической есть. Ведь изначально так называли любую архитектуру, отдалившуюся от античных образцов, то есть варварскую архитектуру (готы здесь образ варварства). А знаменитые шатровые своды были как раз таким "готическим" ("варварским") новшеством, которое русские зодчие привнесли в унаследованный от Византии античный канон храмовой архитектуры.
