Скорость гиперзвуковой баллистической ракеты, испытания которой состоялись 6 января, в 12 раз превышает скорость звука. Во время запуска ракета достигла высоты 99,8 км. Также отмечается, что ракета успешно поразила заданный объект в открытых водах на расстоянии 1500 км. Кроме того, для создания корпуса двигателя гиперзвуковой ракеты был использован новый композитный материал, армированный углеродными волокнами.
За запуском лично наблюдал лидер Северной Кореи Ким Чен Ын вместе с высшим военным руководством.
Комментируя успешное испытание, Ким Чен Ын заявил, что основная цель разработки новой гиперзвуковой ракеты заключается в обеспечении самообороны, а не в агрессивных намерениях. Он также подчеркнул, что новая ракета КНДР «может эффективно преодолеть любые системы противоракетной обороны в мире».
Ким Чен Ын отметил, что данная гиперзвуковая ракета предназначена для надежного сдерживания любых угроз безопасности КНДР со стороны противников в Азиатско-Тихоокеанском регионе.
Ранее в Южной Корее заявили, что ракета КНДР пролетела около 1,1 тыс. км.
