Зашел в кофейню у моря. Очень симпатичную кофейню. Мальчик-таец баристой, приятный. Выпил айс-кофе, понравился. У меня с собой макбук, людей тут нет, а вайфай есть, остался работать. И вдруг сквозь шум моря и собственных мыслей доносится мерзкий такой голосок: «Дарите женщинам цветы без повода и без причины…» Разморило, что ли, меня. Нет, так и есть, дальше голосок что-то про ландыши от души. Подхожу к мальчику. Что это, спрашиваю, у вас играет. Тот показывает гордо плейлист. А там сплошь наши, весь ужас, который должен звучать в шалмане города Туапсе. И мальчик с доброй улыбкой на плохом инглише: «Я очень люблю русскую музыку». Не мог же я ему сказать – немедленно выключи это говно и никогда не включай. Захлопнул макбук, быстро ушел.

As the war in Ukraine rages, the messaging app Telegram has emerged as the go-to place for unfiltered live war updates for both Ukrainian refugees and increasingly isolated Russians alike. The account, "War on Fakes," was created on February 24, the same day Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" and troops began invading Ukraine. The page is rife with disinformation, according to The Atlantic Council's Digital Forensic Research Lab, which studies digital extremism and published a report examining the channel. Additionally, investors are often instructed to deposit monies into personal bank accounts of individuals who claim to represent a legitimate entity, and/or into an unrelated corporate account. To lend credence and to lure unsuspecting victims, perpetrators usually claim that their entity and/or the investment schemes are approved by financial authorities. Given the pro-privacy stance of the platform, it’s taken as a given that it’ll be used for a number of reasons, not all of them good. And Telegram has been attached to a fair few scandals related to terrorism, sexual exploitation and crime. Back in 2015, Vox described Telegram as “ISIS’ app of choice,” saying that the platform’s real use is the ability to use channels to distribute material to large groups at once. Telegram has acted to remove public channels affiliated with terrorism, but Pavel Durov reiterated that he had no business snooping on private conversations. In February 2014, the Ukrainian people ousted pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych, prompting Russia to invade and annex the Crimean peninsula. By the start of April, Pavel Durov had given his notice, with TechCrunch saying at the time that the CEO had resisted pressure to suppress pages criticizing the Russian government.
