О его гибели сообщили на сайте Управления социальной защиты населения Волоконовского района. В некрологе мужчины говорилось, что он погиб 18 октября 2023 года под Авдеевкой Донецкой области. Похоронили Ходырева только спустя 257 дней — 1 июля 2024 года.
До войны Николай работал водителем в компании «Приосколье». Согласно сайту ФССП, в 2022 году у мужчины образовались незначительные долги, общая сумма которых была чуть более 50 тысяч рублей — вряд ли это мотивировало его подписать контракт. На сайте соцзащиты тоже ничего не сказано о том, почему мужчина отправился на войну.
