Was Paganism Exoteric or Esoteric?

Exoteric is defined as, "intended for or likely to be understood by the general public."

Esoteric is defined as, "intended for or likely to be understood by only a small number of people with a specialized knowledge or interest."

Using these definitions it becomes clear what historical Paganism was. There were public temples, public sacrifices & rituals. Does this mean, high priests wouldn't have had specialized knowledge, of course not. Just as an expert blacksmith would have specialized knowledge about his craft. But the idea they hid away knowledge for only a select few is patently false.

There were Esoteric cults in the Pagan past, such as the Pythagoreans with a cult leader, abstaining from blood sacrifices, having secret rules, hidden clubs and secret handshakes inspiring the likes of free-masonry. Pagan peoples were highly against these.

In 508 bc, Cylon of Croton led Pagans to burn their houses, killing many and driving the rest to exile like Pythagoras himself.

Telegram | DID YOU KNOW?

Date: |

On December 23rd, 2020, Pavel Durov posted to his channel that the company would need to start generating revenue. In early 2021, he added that any advertising on the platform would not use user data for targeting, and that it would be focused on “large one-to-many channels.” He pledged that ads would be “non-intrusive” and that most users would simply not notice any change. In 2018, Russia banned Telegram although it reversed the prohibition two years later. Russians and Ukrainians are both prolific users of Telegram. They rely on the app for channels that act as newsfeeds, group chats (both public and private), and one-to-one communication. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Telegram has remained an important lifeline for both Russians and Ukrainians, as a way of staying aware of the latest news and keeping in touch with loved ones. "Markets were cheering this economic recovery and return to strong economic growth, but the cheers will turn to tears if the inflation outbreak pushes businesses and consumers to the brink of recession," he added. On Telegram’s website, it says that Pavel Durov “supports Telegram financially and ideologically while Nikolai (Duvov)’s input is technological.” Currently, the Telegram team is based in Dubai, having moved around from Berlin, London and Singapore after departing Russia. Meanwhile, the company which owns Telegram is registered in the British Virgin Islands.
