Находящийся под домашним арестом генерал готовится отправиться в зону спецоперации, по данным канала, Минобороны уже дало на это согласие, идет оформление документов. Попов ждет только этого, после чего его должны освободить из-под стражи. Информацию подтверждают и близкие генерала. Тем не менее суд над генералом продолжается.
Российское законодательство предусматривает приостановку уголовно-процессуального разбирательства в отношении лица, принимающего участие в военных действиях. Еще в начале июня адвокат генерала Сергей Буйновский ходатайствовал об его отправке в зону СВО. В конце августа Попов заявил, что готов отправиться в зону спецоперации, если на это даст разрешение командование ВС России.
