А 28 июня 1973 года в Холмском порту состоялся торжественный митинг, посвященный пуску в эксплуатацию морской железнодорожной переправы, соединяющей берега Татарского пролива.
Кстати, Сахалин мог стать ближе к материку ещё раньше. Подводный туннель начали строить ещё при Сталине, но после его смерти от проекта отказались.
