6That in thee may thy people joy,
wilt thou not us revive?
7Shew us thy mercy, Lord, to us
do thy salvation give.

8I'll hear what God the Lord will speak:
to his folk he'll speak peace,
And to his saints; but let them not
return to foolishness.

9To them that fear him surely near
is his salvation;
That glory in our land may have
her habitation.

10Truth met with mercy, righteousness
and peace kiss'd mutually:
11Truth springs from earth, and righteousness
looks down from heaven high.

12Yea, what is good the Lord shall give;
our land shall yield increase:
13Justice, to set us in his steps,
shall go before his face.
Regrettably I forgot posting the weekly Catechism post this past Saturday. So as not to get behind schedule here it is:
Every Saturday part of a reformation confession or catechism is posted. This week we have Lord's day 4 from the Heidelberg catechism.

Lord’s Day 4
9.Q. But doesn’t God do man an injustice by requiring in his law what man is unable to do?
A. No, God created man with the ability to keep the law. Man, however, tempted by the devil, in reckless disobedience, robbed himself and his descendants of these gifts.
Genesis 1:31Genesis 3:6,13John 8:44Romans 5:12,18,19Ephesians 4:24.

10.Q. Will God permit such disobedience and rebellion to go unpunished?
A. Certainly not. He is terribly angry about the sin we are born with as well as the sins we personally commit. As a just judge He punishes them now and in eternity. He has declared: Cursed be every one who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, and do them.
Exodus 34:7Deuteronomy 27:26Psalm 5:4-6Nahum 1:2Romans 1:18Galatians 3:10Ephesians 5:6Hebrews 9:27.

11.Q. But isn’t God also merciful?
A. God is certainly merciful, but He is also just. His justice demands that sin, committed against His supreme majesty, be punished with the supreme penalty - eternal punishment of body and soul.
Exodus 34:6,7Deuteronomy 7:9-11Psalm 5:4-6Psalm 103:8,9Matthew 25:35-46Hebrews 10:30,31.

PRAYER REMINDER

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God". -Philippians 4:6-7

- Pray for revival in our land
- Pray for victims of the Madgeburg attack
- Pray for our brothers who are in mental or spiritual distress
- Pray for resisting temptation
- Pray for unsaved people you know
It was lawful for the priests only, to burn incense; but now, all we who believe in Christ, are priests; wherefore it is lawful for us, and for us only, to burn the incense of prayers. The censer, that golden vessel, is the words which we utter in prayer: surely golden and precious are those, of which the Lord’s Prayer consisted, the Psalms, and other prayers used in the holy scripture.

~Martin Luther — A sermon on Philippians, Chap. iv. verses 4, 5, 6, and 7.
Merry Christmas brethren.
Strive daily against sin and win heaven by force or perish everlastingly.

The Second Part : Of Man’s Deliverance
Lord’s Day 5
12.Q. According to God’s righteous judgment we deserve punishment both in this world and forever after: how then can we escape this punishment and return to God’s favour?
A. God requires that His justice be satisfied. Therefore the claims of His justice must be paid in full, either by ourselves, or by another.
Exodus 23:7Isaiah 53:11Romans 2:1-11Romans 8:3,4.

13.Q. Can we pay this debt ourselves?
A. Certainly not. Actually, we increase our guilt every day.
Matthew 6:12Romans 2:4,5.

14.Q. Can another creature - any at all - pay this debt for us?
A. No. To begin with, God will not punish another creature for man’s guilt. Besides, no mere creature can bear the weight of God’s eternal anger against sin and release others from it.
Psalm 49:7-9Psalm 130:3Ezekiel 18:4,20Hebrews 2:14-18.

15.Q. What kind of mediator and deliverer should we look for then?
A. He must be truly human and truly righteous, yet more powerful than all creatures, that is, He must also be true God.
Isaiah 7:14Isaiah 9:6Isaiah 53:9Jeremiah 23:6John 1:1Romans 1:31 Corinthians 15:212 Corinthians 5:21Hebrews 2:17Hebrews 7:26.
Blessed Lord's day!

Heidelberg Catechism Q 103: "What does God require in the fourth commandment?"

First, that the ministry of the gospel and the schools be maintained;[a] and that I, especially on the sabbath*, that is, on the day of rest, diligently frequent the church of God,[b] to hear his word,[c] to use the sacraments,[d] publicly to call upon the Lord,[e] and contribute to the relief of the poor.[f] Secondly, that all the days of my life I cease from my evil works, and yield myself to the Lord, to work by his Holy Spirit in me: and thus begin in this life the eternal sabbath.[g]

b: Psalm 40:10, Psalm 40:11, Psalm 68:27, Acts 2:42, Acts 2:46
c: 1 Timothy 4:13, 1 Corinthians 14:19, 1 Corinthians 14:29, 1 Corinthians 14:31
d: 1 Corinthians 11:33
e: 1 Timothy 2:1, 1 Timothy 2:2, 1 Timothy 2:3, 1 Timothy 2:8, 1 Timothy 2:9, 1 Timothy 2:10, 1 Timothy 2:11, 1 Corinthians 14:16
f: 1 Corinthians 16:2
g: Isaiah 66:23

*This concerns an addition, which has been adopted from the translation by Peter Datheen. In the original text of the Catechism, only the 'day of rest' is mentioned.
It says something that when going to church the only people you can have true fellowship with are 3x your age. The west is doomed. Knowing and acknowledging this inevitability it is our duty to be that last western man enduring and struggling to lead an upright life amoung the ruins.

Sure the sun may rise again over the west but it won't happen till it gets much darker than what it already is and most likely won't happen within our lifetimes.

Komt, laat ons samen Isrels HEER’,
Den rotssteen van ons heil, met eer,
Met Godgewijden zang ontmoeten.
Laat ons Zijn gunstrijk aangezicht,
Met een verheven lofgedicht,
En blijde psalmen, juichend groeten.

De HEER’ is groot, een heerlijk God,
Een Koning, die het zaligst lot,
Ver boven alle goôn, kan schenken.
Het diepst van ’s aardrijks ingewand,
Het hoogst gebergt’ is in Zijn hand;
’t Is al gehoorzaam op Zijn wenken.

Want Hij is onze God, en wij
Zijn ’t volk van Zijne heerschappij,
De schapen, die Zijn hand wil weiden.
Zo gij Zijn stem dan heden hoort,
Gelooft Zijn heil- en troostrijk woord;
Verhardt u niet, maar laat u leiden.
Let us commemorate this great saint today.

John Wycliffe (l. 1330 - 31 December 1384) was an English theologian, priest, and scholar, recognized as a forerunner to the Protestant Reformation in Europe. Wycliffe condemned the practices of the medieval Church, citing many of the same abuses that would later be addressed by other reformers. He is best known for translating the Bible into Middle English.
