لأوزان الأفعال العربية معانٍ، وربما كان لكل منها أكثر من معنًى.
من هذه الأوزان "أفعَلَ" و"فعَّلَ"، ومن أشهر وأهمّ معاني هذين الوزنين إذا جاءا متعديين إلى مفعول به، جعْل المفعول به يفعل، فإذا قلت: "أحضرت/حضّرت فلانًا"، فالمعنى "جعلته يَحضر"، وإذا قلت: "أعلمت/علّمت فلانًا"، فالمعنى "جعلته يَعلَم"، وهكذا.

وقد استُعمل هذان الوزنان في مسألة تأكيد الأمور.

والماضي في اللغة العربية هو الأمر المؤكد حدوثه، لأنه حدث بالفعل، ويقال: "سيف ماضٍ" إذا كان نافذًا قاطعًا لا يمنعه شيء. لذلك إذا قلت: "أمضيت القرار" فالمعنى "جعلته يمضي"، أي يصبح ماضيًا لا يمنعه شيء.
كذلك عندما نقول: "وقّعت القرار" فالمعنى "جعلته يقع"، أي يصبح واقعًا لا مانع له. ومنه "الأمر الواقع"، أي الذي لا حيلة لنا معه لأنه حدث بالفعل، وكان ما كان.
فالتوقيع والإمضاء ليسا مجرَّد الاسم المكتوب أسفل القرار، بل هما النتيجة المفترَضة بعد كتابة هذا الاسم.
