Today, in Black History Month, we remember the youngest person to be executed in the US during the 20th century: 14-year-old Black boy George Stinney.
Convicted of murder by an all-white jury after only 10 minutes in court, Stinney was completely innocent. He was accused of killing two missing white girls.
It took seven decades until the court recognized that he was deprived of due process and that his alleged confession was not credible.

As the war in Ukraine rages, the messaging app Telegram has emerged as the go-to place for unfiltered live war updates for both Ukrainian refugees and increasingly isolated Russians alike. On December 23rd, 2020, Pavel Durov posted to his channel that the company would need to start generating revenue. In early 2021, he added that any advertising on the platform would not use user data for targeting, and that it would be focused on “large one-to-many channels.” He pledged that ads would be “non-intrusive” and that most users would simply not notice any change. On Telegram’s website, it says that Pavel Durov “supports Telegram financially and ideologically while Nikolai (Duvov)’s input is technological.” Currently, the Telegram team is based in Dubai, having moved around from Berlin, London and Singapore after departing Russia. Meanwhile, the company which owns Telegram is registered in the British Virgin Islands. Andrey, a Russian entrepreneur living in Brazil who, fearing retaliation, asked that NPR not use his last name, said Telegram has become one of the few places Russians can access independent news about the war. So, uh, whenever I hear about Telegram, it’s always in relation to something bad. What gives?
