Prince Arthur in Canada
Prince Arthur, son of Queen Victoria, first came to Canada in 1869. Between serving with the Montreal Rifle Brigade and defending Canada against the Fenian Raid of 1870, he embraced the Canadian climate and its winter sports. The Prince Arthur Toboggan Club was one of his patronages. During the early talks of Confederation there were some ideas of making Canada an “auxiliary” Kingdom of the Empire. One option was put forward by the former Irish Revolutionary, Thomas D’Arcy McGee, to have one of Queen Victoria’s younger sons set up as a King who would reign from Canada, Prince Arthur being the most favoured. This never came to be, however, but Prince Arthur would return to Canada as the Duke of Connaught in 1911 to take up the position of Governor General, the only British Prince ever to do so. Prince Arthur died in 1942 at the age of 91.

A Russian Telegram channel with over 700,000 followers is spreading disinformation about Russia's invasion of Ukraine under the guise of providing "objective information" and fact-checking fake news. Its influence extends beyond the platform, with major Russian publications, government officials, and journalists citing the page's posts. Again, in contrast to Facebook, Google and Twitter, Telegram's founder Pavel Durov runs his company in relative secrecy from Dubai. The account, "War on Fakes," was created on February 24, the same day Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" and troops began invading Ukraine. The page is rife with disinformation, according to The Atlantic Council's Digital Forensic Research Lab, which studies digital extremism and published a report examining the channel. "The argument from Telegram is, 'You should trust us because we tell you that we're trustworthy,'" Maréchal said. "It's really in the eye of the beholder whether that's something you want to buy into." In addition, Telegram now supports the use of third-party streaming tools like OBS Studio and XSplit to broadcast live video, allowing users to add overlays and multi-screen layouts for a more professional look.
