Авторы памятника — скульптор Дмитрий Олешня и архитектор Юрий Дворников. Десятиметровая композиция представляет собой стаю журавлей, которая взлетает ввысь между стальных штыков. Как сообщает газета «Молот», птицы при этом напоминают своей стилизацией боевые самолеты. У основания памятника авторы решили расположить букву V — как напоминание о подвигах участников спецоперации.
Это уже третьи «Журавли» в Ростовской области. Две других композиции-тезки расположены на федеральной трасс М-4 «Дон» перед Каменском-Шахтинском и на Самбекских высотах.
