30 декабря 2024 г. Архиепископ Анастасий был госпитализирован в одну из клиник албанской столицы из-за вирусной инфекции. Однако вскоре его состояние ухудшилось, появились симптомы желудочного кровотечения, из-за чего медики приняли решение перевести владыку в Афины для оказания специализированной медицинской помощи.
Архиепископу Анастасию 95 лет. Он известен своей последовательной позицией неприятия украинских раскольников и публичной полемикой по данному вопросу с Константинопольским патриархом Варфоломеем.
