So, uh, whenever I hear about Telegram, it’s always in relation to something bad. What gives? In 2020, officials ordered Telegram to pay a fine of $18.5 million and hand back much of the cash that it had raised. Perpetrators of such fraud use various marketing techniques to attract subscribers on their social media channels. But Kliuchnikov, the Ukranian now in France, said he will use Signal or WhatsApp for sensitive conversations, but questions around privacy on Telegram do not give him pause when it comes to sharing information about the war. Also in the latest update is the ability for users to create a unique @username from the Settings page, providing others with an easy way to contact them via Search or their t.me/username link without sharing their phone number.
