الاستعاذة بالله تعالى من الشيطان الرجيم من أهم ما يدعو به المؤمن في أدعيته الدائمة، فإن الشياطين تجتهد في إيذاء الإنسان وتحضر في ماجريات حياته للوسوسة ولغيرها. قال تعالى لنبيه صلى الله عليه وسلم: ﴿وقل رب أعوذ بك من همزات الشياطين . وأعوذ بك رب أن يحضرون﴾ [المؤمنون: ٩٧-٩٨].
قال ابن زيد: همزات الشياطين خَنْقهم الناس، فذلك هَمَزاتهم. وقال ابن زيد، في قوله: ﴿وأعوذ بك رب أن يحضرون﴾ أيْ في أيّ شيء من أمري.
