Куракин обвиняется в получении взятки (ч. 6 ст. 290 УК), злоупотребление полномочиями (ч. 3. ст. 285), незаконном изготовлении (ч. 1 ст. 223) и приобретении (ч. 1 ст. 222) оружия.
Изначально Куракина арестовали по делу о массовой вырубке здорового леса под видом санитарных рубок. Позднее на этих участках появлялись мусорные полигоны. Ущерб по делу оценивается в 2,7 млрд руб.
