At its heart, Telegram is little more than a messaging app like WhatsApp or Signal. Right now, as Wired reports, the app is a key way for Ukrainians to receive updates from the government during the invasion. Just days after Russia invaded Ukraine, Durov wrote that Telegram was "increasingly becoming a source of unverified information," and he worried about the app being used to "incite ethnic hatred." On Feb. 27, however, he admitted from his Russian-language account that "Telegram channels are increasingly becoming a source of unverified information related to Ukrainian events." During the operations, Sebi officials seized various records and documents, including 34 mobile phones, six laptops, four desktops, four tablets, two hard drive disks and one pen drive from the custody of these persons. False news often spreads via public groups, or chats, with potentially fatal effects.
