У донских казаков — ветхозаветный Святой пророк Осия, который за тысячу лет до пришествия Спасителя пророчествовал о Его жертве и воскресении. Почитаемая "Книга пророка Осии" — одна из самых вразумительных изо всех пророчеств, но ныне, к сожалению, в забвении.

День Пророка Осии становится официальным войсковым праздником Донского казачьего Войска, в память и в благодарность Богу за чудесное спасение семьи российского императора Александра III при крушении царского поезда 17 октября 1888 года.
