25 декабря 1979 года, ровно 45 лет назад,начались разведывательные полеты группы Як-28Р («фронтовой разведчик») в Афганистане. Семь экипажей из эскадрильи Як-28Р совершили перелёт по маршруту Балхаш - Мары для выполнения задач в районе боевых действий.
✈️ Группа сразу приступила к выполнению боевых задач. До Нового года было выполнено 4-5 полётов, главной задачей которых являлось фотографирование аэродромов Афганистана и ведение воздушной разведки.
10 апреля поступил приказ вернуться на свою базу в Балхаше. За 4 месяца каждый экипаж выполнил от 25 до 48 вылетов. Через год почти весь лётный состав был награжден орденами Красной Звезды🎖
На Иркутском авиазаводе с 1966 по 1970 годы произведено 183 машины в модификации фронтовой разведчик. Самолет оказался наиболее удачным представителем семейства и был востребованным самолетом своего времени.
