از نشانه‌های یک جامعه‌ی سالم و رو به رشد این است که در آن هر فردی (نجار، مهندس، رفتگر، روزنامه‌نگار، دامدار، معلم، محیط‌بان، صافکار، معمار، سیاستمدار، پزشک، باغبان و غیره...) کار و پیشه‌ی خود را مهم می‌داند، جدی می‌گیرد و تلاش می‌کند کارش را به بهترین روش انجام دهد و دنبال بهانه برای تنبلی و فرافکنی نیست. در چنین جامعه‌ای، ارزش و اعتبار افراد بر اساس شغل آن‌ها سنجیده نمی‌شود بلکه دانش و مهارت آن‌ها در کاری که انجام می‌دهند و درستی و کیفیت کارشان است که اهمیت دارد. بنابراین در جامعه‌ی مورد نظر، یک کشاورز با تجربه یا یک تعمیرکار ماهر، ارزشمندتر از یک سیاستمدار نادان یا یک مدیر نالایق است.
البته در برخی جوامع، پیشه‌هایی هم هست که اگر نباشند نه تنها خللی در زندگی مردم پیش نمی‌آید بلکه اوضاع به مراتب بهتر خواهد شد!...
