24 августа 1854 она стала главной ареной битвы за Петропавловский порт - в этот день на ее склонах бились на смерть 300 русских солдат и 700 англо-французских десантников. Противник был разгромлен, выжившие бежали, побросав оружие. Сопку прозвали сопкой любви к Родине, но коротко и нежно зовут сопкой любви.
Интересно, что по правому её склону до сих пор растут берёзы, которые были свидетелями всех этих событий, а некоторым из них и вовсе более 300 лет, т.е. больше, чем самому Петропавловску-Камчатскому!
