Как пишет издание, 30 января ускорители первой ступени Trident II D5 не сработали во время учений у побережья Флориды. 58-тонная ракетаупала рядом с подлодкой HMS Vanguard, где и находился в тот момент Шэппс.
При этом в британском Минобороны считают, что произошла некая аномалия, а ядерное сдерживание королевства «остается надежным и эффективным».
Отмечается, что это уже второе неудачное испытание с 2016 года, когда ракета Trident отклонилась от курса и самоуничтожилась.
