Он был основан в 1852 году по инициативе жены цесаревича Марии Александровны и по воле Николая I. В 1914-1918 годах в здании института располагался военный госпиталь, а после институт был закрыт, здание передано Нижегородскому политехническому институту.
В наследство от Мариинского института нам достались интерьеры и главная изюминка здания — чугунная лестница. Красотой 3 корпуса мы восхищаемся по сей день😍
