Some Democratic groups, like MoveOn.Org and Human Rights Campaign, are posting far less on Twitter — if not leaving the site completely for Bluesky, a left-leaning version of the site with far fewer users and nowhere the same audience reach.
“There is a fight for the attention economy, and today the Republicans are winning. No doubt,” said Dan Sena, a longtime Democratic strategist and former executive director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Just days after Russia invaded Ukraine, Durov wrote that Telegram was "increasingly becoming a source of unverified information," and he worried about the app being used to "incite ethnic hatred." Individual messages can be fully encrypted. But the user has to turn on that function. It's not automatic, as it is on Signal and WhatsApp. Messages are not fully encrypted by default. That means the company could, in theory, access the content of the messages, or be forced to hand over the data at the request of a government. Asked about its stance on disinformation, Telegram spokesperson Remi Vaughn told AFP: "As noted by our CEO, the sheer volume of information being shared on channels makes it extremely difficult to verify, so it's important that users double-check what they read." In February 2014, the Ukrainian people ousted pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych, prompting Russia to invade and annex the Crimean peninsula. By the start of April, Pavel Durov had given his notice, with TechCrunch saying at the time that the CEO had resisted pressure to suppress pages criticizing the Russian government.
