القول بفناء النار عند شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية البحث فيه بحث أثري في المقام الأول، فالشيخ قد صح عنده عن جمع من الصحابة القول بفناء النار،فعن عمر رضي الله عنه: (لو لبث أهل النار عدد رمل عالج لكان لهم يوم يخرجون فيه) وعن ابن عباس: ( النار مثواكم خالدين فيها إلا ما شاء الله إن ربك حكيم عليم) قال :(إن هذه الآية آية لا ينبغي لأحد أن يحكم على الله في خلقه أن لا ينزلهم جنة ولا ناراً ) وعن عبدالله بن عمرو قال:( يأتي على النار زمان تخفق أبوابها ليس فيه أحد) فالمسألة عند الشيخ مسألة أثرية في المقام الأول ، وليس البحث فيها عقلي محض أو ذوقي، كما عند جهم القائل بنفي التسلسل في الماضي والمستقبل فأنتج هذا قوله بفناء الجنة والنار، وليس الحامل لشيخ الإسلام على هذا القول مغازلة الكفار من مختلف الملل، وتقديم نسخة (كيوت) من الإسلام، كما تفعل بعض العمائم العفنة في زماننا هذا والله المستعان.
