سبدها و زیراندازهای حصیری، یکی از مهم‌ترین صنایع دستی شمال ایران محسوب می‌شوند و این محصولات چوبی، با توجه به نوع الیاف گیاهی قابل رشد در این خطه از ایران بافته می‌شوند. ساقه‌ی برنج و ساقه‌ی نی مردابی، الیاف حصیربافی در شمال ایران هستند. «سوف» یکی از الیاف مردابی است و این نی بعد از خشک شدن در زیر آفتاب، از الیاف مورد استفاده در بافت زیرانداز محسوب می‌شود. همچنین «لی» یا «گالی» یکی دیگر از انواع نی مورد استفاده در حصیربافی است که در اطراف مرداب رشد می‌کند. «کنف» از الیاف پرورش یافته در مزارع به‌منظور حصیربافی است و بعد از زرد شدن ساقه و برگ، آماده‌ی چیده شدن برای استفاده در بافت است. ترکه‌های درخت بید نیز بعد از خیساندن و نرم شدن، به یکی از الیاف‌های گیاهی برای بافت حصیر تبدیل می‌شوند و تنها مختص مناطق شمالی ایران نیستند و در دیگر مناطق نیز از این الیاف استفاده می‌کنند.
