Инструментом такого воспитания протестующие считают новый школьный учебник истории для 7-го класса. Вместе с книгой участники акции «Сохрани прошлое — защити будущее» требуют забраковать и министра образования Жанну Андреасян, поскольку та не хочет отзывать «Историю Армении» и общаться с протестующими.

Учебником недовольны по целому ряду причин. Одна из них — балканская теория появления армян на Армянском нагорье. По мнению автора, «различные теории» должны развивать у детей критическое мышление, однако пока они развивают только изжогу у взрослых.

Эксперты уверены: «История Армении» — плод неверных концептуальных и системных подходов. Пока ученые говорили о проблемах с картами, неуместном упоминании Ататюрка и длинном разделе о халифе Муавии, активисты нашли «турецкий след» еще и в учебниках для 2 и 5 классов. В них некоторые армянские топонимы заменили на азербайджанские.
