У Уилсона очень узнаваемая эстетика, с одной стороны, холодная и выверенная, с другой — генетически связанная с цирком, одним из самых экспрессивных видов искусства. Режиссер использует разноколесные велосипеды, парики и костюмы преувеличенных размеров, гротескное актерское существование. Экспрессивными внешними средствами Уилсон создает комиксово-статичный, но при этом игровой мир из поэтических текстов.
