که یکی از نویسندگان آن خانم نورا وولکف ⁦است که سال‌هاست رئیس انستیتو ملی سوءمصرف مواد آمریکاست بر اساس اطلاعات پرونده‌‌های ۷۳ میلیون بیمار که از ایشان ۱۲۰۳۰ نفر تشخیص قطعی کووید-۱۹ داشته‌اند انجام شده.
‏بر اساس یافته‌های این مطالعه به طور متوسط شانس ابتلا به کووید-۱۹ در بیمارانی که در یک سال اخیر دارای ⁧ اعتیاد (که بهتر است آن را بیماری با اختلال مصرف مواد بنامیم تا انگ نداشته باشد)⁩ بوده‌اند به طور میانگین ۸٫۷ برابر جمعیت عمومی بوده است.

این نسبت برای مواد مختلف یکسان نبوده است.

‏شانس ابتلا نسبت به جمعیت عمومی در مصرف‌کنندگان:
مواد مخدر (تریاک، هروئین و ...) ۱۰٫۲۴ برابر
سیگار و تنباکو ۸٫۲ برابر
الکل ۷٫۷ برابر
کوکائین ۶٫۵ برابر
و حشیش و گل ۵٫۳
